Boron Nitride Composite
Evaporator Boats
Ceramic Technologies offers hot-pressed boron nitrade/titanium diboride evaporator boats used to metallize plastic film and paper. Our boats offer the biggest aluminum puddle in the industry.
Evaporator Boat benefits:
- Minimized spitting
- Better and more consistent optical densities
- Increased longevity
Sizes range from 160mm x 40mm x 11mm. Both two and three component boats are available in a wide range of MOC's.
"Ceramic Technologies has shown great technical expertise in ceramic materials and applications. Their in-depth knowledge of the many types of ceramics is invaluable."

Recommendation for use of BN Composite EC(FEC)
1. ClampingBoat clamping is important for the evaporation. Poor clamping brings a power and local heating at the electrode may cause great damage to the boat. For contact between a boat and an electrode, please check the clamping as below.
1. Use graphite foil between a boat and an electrode for uniform contact.

2. Too strong clamping may deform the boat.

3. Make sure of the boat alignment and no gap between a boat and an electrode.

2. Aluminum feeding
Keep the aluminum feeding point around the boat center.
Off center feeding may cause an unsymmetrical aluminum pool on Zebra BoatR as the photograph below.

3. Heating
1. 15 minutes are required to heat the boat up to the evaporation temperature in the first
cycle.
Halt halfway within 5minutes is also recommended.
2. 5 minutes are enough to increase the boat temperature in the second cycle and later.

3. The vacuum below 1x10-3 mbar is desirable for the evaporation.
4. Pre-melting of aluminum is not always necessary for ZEBRA BOATR.
5. Check the boat alignment and the electrical contact in case of irregular and
dispersed currents.
6. Cooling time before the ventilation is about 5 minutes.
4. Sludge removing
The removal of the sludge after every cycle of evaporation is recommended.
